If you do plan to pull and replace the existing keyboard while you are in there you might as well give it a good cleaning.Recently there have been many reports from users that in Windows 10 keyboard is not working. Maybe newer laptops are easier to work on but I doubt it. yes it was an OLD laptop, but the one thing I learned was servicing laptops is not for the faint of heart. I've done ONE laptop and it was a PITA to service and yes you could remove the keyboard (you had to just to be able to access the HDD. That's about the time I would have sent it into a professional to be serviced. When you say, "I will order and fit a new keyboard" are you talking a new keyboard for the laptop?!? Or are you talking about getting a new EXTERNAL keyboard?!? If you are talking about ordering a NEW keyboard that fits the laptop you are a brave man. If let's say you find that it works when you press down on the LEFT side of the spacebar, but NOT on the right side, that will tell you something. Something to try just for fun - and because you can - is to starting from the left side of the spacebar hit it to see if it works, and then move slightly to the right testing the space bar until you reach the right side. When was the last time you had that laptop CLEANED?!? It could be that some junk is clogging this up and when you press down on the spacebar it is not making contact. It almost sounds like there is a loose connection or a short of some kind. Unfortunately this has not fixed the spacebar, this morning I attached a keyboard and all the keys work successfully so I would guess it is a hardware issue and I will order and fit a new keyboard with the hope this fixes the issue.Īdding an external Keyboard is a temporary fix. Some laptops do, they allow you to test hardware to see if they pass a factory check.
